Job: These clients were searching for home storage solutions when they stumbled across attic storage. Roof Space Renovators were engaged to transform an area of the roof space into a dust proof storage room with attic windows for light and ventilation.

Location: Toowong, Qld.

This attic transformation was completed back in November / December 2014. Unfortunately at the time, we didn’t end up taking before and after photos. Recently, the client contacted us for further quotes on separate renovation projects. Therefore, we were able to revisit and take photos of the project we completed almost 2.5 years ago.

Upon revisiting, we were quite surprised with the way in which the room was being used. The clients had laid floating timber flooring over the storage flooring. The room consisted of a mattress on the floor, a hammock, a couple of televisions, a playstation and games, board games, a small shelf and a portable air conditioner.

This attic dust proof storage room, is a large 20m2. An engineer was involved in the build in order to make it a clear room, free of collar ties, strut purlins etc. (basically all the timbers running through that area of the roof space), yet ensuring the structural integrity of the home. In addition to the dust proof storage room, we also installed a hatch door. The hatch door is perfect for access to the roof space beyond the storage room. In this case, the hatch door lead out to 15m2 of basic storage flooring for their more occasional use storage items. We also installed a top of the range attic ladder and balustrade around the ladder opening for safety. Four (4) roof windows for light and ventilation was also installed, including an airomatic ventilator.

We lay our storage flooring to engineers specifications for both our basic and dust proof storage options. The flooring is rated to 75kg per m2. The way in which these clients are using the room, poses no issues in terms of weight load as they are not overloading the storage flooring capacity.

These Queensland homeowners have unlocked a space in their home that has always been unused and therefore wasted. They have transformed it into an area for their teenage son to escape and have his own space. They also enjoy time-out laying in the hammock and gazing out of their roof windows.
