Many Brisbane homes, especially older ones, struggle with dark living areas that leave the home feeing more gloomy than glowing. That was exactly the case for Mickael, a local homeowner who came to us wanting a Velux skylight installation to brighten his lounge and dining room.
Here’s how we helped Mickael transform his home with a professional Velux installation, and how we can help you do the same.
Why this Brisbane home needed a Velux skylight installation
When Mickael reached out to the Roof Space Renovators team, he had done his research and was set on the Velux brand. Velux is known for high-performance, sleek skylights, and a very popular brand on TV renovation shows like “The Block”.
While we offer several other quality skylight brands, we’re all about helping clients achieve their vision, so Velux it was.
Originally, he wanted one large skylight in a landscape orientation to save on cost. But after we quoted the job, he wondered if two skylights might fit side by side. Spoiler alert: they did, and the result was even better light distribution than one large skylight would have provided.
What was involved in the Velux installation?
After our second consult, Mickael decided on two Velux 550x1400mm fixed skylights and solar powered blinds with full internal finishing to bring the skylight right up to a paint-ready stage. The whole Velux installation process took about 3.5 days from start to finish.
We worked around the existing roof structure, and made sure everything was finished to a high standard.
But there’s a twist in this glow up! Mickael ended up not wanting the blinds in the end because he loved the natural light so much, he didn’t feel the need to block it out at all.
Brisbane roofs can be tricky to install skylights in
This Brisbane Velux skylight installation wasn’t without its quirks. The roof cavity where the skylights were to be installed was quite shallow, and there was no way to fully inspect it for plumbing or electrical obstructions beforehand. But that’s where experience really counts after a decade of installing Velux skylights across Brisbane, we’ve pretty much seen it all, and the install went smoothly.
A light-filled living transformation with Velux skylights
The transformation was incredible. What was once a dark, artificial-light-dependent living area became a bright, welcoming space filled with natural light. During the day, Mickael no longer needs to turn on lights in his lounge and dining areas, which is saving him on electricity bills too.
Don’t just take our word for the Velux skylight installation transformation. Here’s what Mickael had to say in his 5-star Google review:
“I wish all trades were as good as these guys. From the moment Col came to give us a quote, we felt listened to and in good hands. The process was super smooth and as easy is gets. Their tradies were great. Really clean and respectful. Special shoutout to Scott the chippie who was awesome and did a fantastic job. 10/10 I’d use these guys again”.
The difference really is like night and day. Natural light brightens a room and changes how you feel in that space, and it’s one of those home improvements that will genuinely improve your everyday living.

Thinking about your own Velux skylight transformation?
If you’re sitting in a dark lounge, hallway, or kitchen thinking “we really need more light in here”, you’re not alone. And you don’t need to knock down walls or install giant windows to fix it.
A well-placed Velux skylight (or any quality brand for that matter) can totally change the look and feel of a room, especially when it’s done right. We will admit, they are an investment, but they’re one that pays you back every day in natural light, improved wellbeing, and added value to your home.
Here’s a quick rundown on skylights:
Fixed vs opening Skylights
Fixed are perfect if you just want the light. Opening skylights (manual, electric or solar) are great if you want ventilation too.
Skylight blinds
Love the light but want the option to soften it on occasion? Blinds are a great addition, but as Mickael showed, you might not even need them.
