Job: Transform the unused roof space into a teenagers retreat with an attic renovation.

The attic can be a very useful space. Many use it for storage of all levels, with some people converting their roof spaces into an additional bedroom or living room with sometimes even a bathroom. For this family, they wanted to use their roof space as a getaway for their teenager. They were aware of the size of their roof space, so converting it into a space where their teenager could watch television, play video games, read or whatever else teenagers do, made complete sense.

It was decided that the size of the room would be 15m2. We had to take into consideration that a teenager would be spending a fair bit of time in the room, so rather than installing standard storage flooring, we installed a structural floor. Structural flooring allows for heavier storage or a habitable room. Due to the fact that the room would be accessed very regularly, these clients chose to have the top of the range timber ladder installed which has the option of an extra wide opening of 880mm wide. This wide opening meant that they could move larger items such as a television, cabinets etc into the room.

They also decided on two of the largest Fakro dual action opening roof windows for light and ventilation. We then had an electrician install downlights, powerpoints, a smoke alarm and of course the main thing, a TV port. Once complete, the attic looked amazing. What a great space for a teenager to have all to them-self.
