Storage Room in Attic
Job: Transform the large dark, dusty, unused roof space into a clean storage room in attic, for this client and her Son who recently downsized their home.
Location: Sandgate, Qld 4017
Making the move from a larger home filled with all your possessions, to a smaller space where all of a sudden not everything fits, can be a daunting process. A smaller space means less furniture and belongings. The decisions surrounding what to keep and what to dispose of can often by tricky.
This homeowner made the decision to purchase this gorgeous Sandgate cottage. Her current home was now too large for just her and her young teenage son, who is her only remaining child still living at home.
Even though the purchase and intended move was a calculated decision, this homeowner was still concerned for her son. She knew he wanted to keep his belongings and have enough of his own space as he moves through his teenage years. Therefore, even though the idea was to downsize the house, this client was considering options such as a garage or small extension to accommodate his needs.
It wasn’t until she was covering the floors of her new home with newspaper in preparation for painting the walls, that she came across our Roof Space Renovators advert in the local paper. Loving the concept, she immediately gave us a call. We organised an appointment time for a measure and a quote. The consultant quickly established that the requirement was not for a living space, as her son would remain sleeping in his bedroom. He simply needed a space to regularly and easily access his belongings that did not fit in his new room and somewhere for him to retreat if and when required.
With the purpose of the proposed new space established and the rest of the particulars discussed, Roof Space Renovators provided a fixed quote which the client quickly accepted. The proposed works involved transforming the roof space into a large 25m2 clean storage room. The attic storage room would be accessed by a top of the range timber attic ladder, the Stairladder Deluxe.

Two roof windows were also included in the new room. Our consultant suggested that one of the roof windows be a standard dual-action opening roof window and the other be a side hinged roof access window. Whilst dual-action opening attic windows are most commonly installed into attics, the roof of this cottage already included a chimney and solar panels. The side hinged access windows allow for easy access to the roof for maintenance purposes. The client was more than happy with this suggestion and as well as being practical, it looks great.
In addition we installed a solar heat sensor ventilator to assist maintain a cool temperature within the new room. This product alone acts like 21 standard whirly birds and is solar powered. Therefore, it is not reliant on the wind to power it. Electrical works including lighting, powerpoints and a television port, were also added.
Needless to say, this client and her son were extremely pleased with the finished result. They were able to downsize their home, yet effectively make the daunting process completely work in their favour. If you need storage or another room….Look Up! Roof Space Renovators can transform you roof space into a storage area or even an extra bedroom.
